Alpha's Betrayal Unveiled Chapter 1

I smoothed down the front of my silver gown, the one Alexander had gifted me on our fifth anniversary, as I entered the monthly Silverfang council meeting. The familiar faces of pack members nodded respectfully as I passed, taking my seat beside the ornate chair reserved for my mate, the Alpha. Seven years as Luna had taught me the rhythm of these gatherings—budget discussions, territory reports, and the occasional dispute resolution. Nothing I couldn't handle with the grace expected of Alexander's mate.

My wolf, Aria, stirred within me. *Something feels wrong today.*

I dismissed her concern with practiced ease. *It's just another meeting, dear one.*

But when Alexander entered, his gaze swept past me as if I were invisible. The chill that ran down my spine wasn't just from the draft in the ancient stone chamber.

"Let's begin," he announced, his voice carrying that natural authority that had first drawn me to him all those years ago.

The meeting proceeded normally until Sarah Mitchell, the Beta's sister, rose from her seat across the chamber. Her lips curled into what might have appeared to others as concern, but I recognized the triumph glittering in her eyes.

"Alpha, I regret to bring this to the council's attention," she began, her voice dripping with false sincerity, "but Luna Victoria has been threatening pack warriors who refuse her... unreasonable demands."

Gasps echoed around the chamber. I stood immediately, shock rendering me momentarily speechless.

"That's absurd! I would never—"

"Silence."

Alexander's command cut through the room like a blade, not directed at Sarah, but at me. The force of his Alpha tone nearly drove me to my knees.

I stared at him, bewildered. In seven years, he had never once used his Alpha voice on me.

"Alexander?"

He wouldn't meet my eyes. Instead, he rose to his full height, shoulders squared beneath his formal council attire. The room fell deathly quiet.

"There will be changes to our pack structure, effective immediately." His voice was mechanical, devoid of emotion. "I, Alpha Alexander Sterling of the Silverfang Pack, reject the mate bond with Victoria Manning."

The words hit me like physical blows. Each syllable tore through my chest, ripping at the sacred connection that had defined my existence for seven years. Aria howled in agony inside me, clawing desperately as if she could physically hold onto the severed bond.

"Sarah Mitchell will assume the position of Luna from this moment forward."

I gripped the table to keep from collapsing as Sarah glided forward, her face a mask of demure acceptance that couldn't quite hide her smirk of victory.

"This can't be happening," I whispered, but the burning pain spreading through my chest told me it was real. Too real.

The pack secretary—a thin man who had always been kind to me—approached with visible discomfort. He couldn't meet my eyes as he placed several official scrolls on the council table.

"The documentation, Alpha," he murmured, unrolling the first parchment.

I recognized Alexander's claw-seal immediately—the distinctive mark he used for only the most official pack business. My hands trembled as I reached for the documents, scanning the formal language that erased seven years of devotion in cold, legal terms.

*Luna status: Revoked.*

*Mate bond: Officially rejected.*

*Successor: Sarah Mitchell.*

The dates on the documents showed they had been prepared weeks ago. While I had been planning our anniversary celebration, Alexander had been planning my replacement.

One by one, council members averted their eyes. Some looked embarrassed, others curious, but none spoke in my defense. Seven years of service to this pack, and not one voice raised for me.

Sarah approached my seat—my throne—with measured steps. "I believe this belongs to the Luna now," she said, her fingers reaching for the silver moonstone necklace at my throat, the symbol of my status.

I jerked away, clutching the pendant. "Don't touch me."

"Victoria," Alexander warned, that unfamiliar coldness still in his voice.

With shaking fingers, I unclasped the necklace myself, refusing to give Sarah the satisfaction of taking it from me. I placed it on the table and backed away, dignity the only thing I had left.

I somehow made it through the rest of the meeting in a haze of shock, watching Sarah take my seat, my role, my life. When it finally ended, I didn't wait for dismissal. I fled.

Hours later, rage finally broke through the numbness. I stormed toward Alexander's private study, the one room in our pack house—no, his pack house now—where we had shared our deepest secrets and plans.

I didn't knock.

"How could you?" I demanded, throwing the door open. "Seven years, Alexander. Seven years of loving you, supporting you, believing in you!"

He looked up from his desk, and for a moment, I thought I saw pain flash across his features. But it vanished so quickly I must have imagined it.

"It's done, Victoria." His voice was cold, detached. Then, like twisting the knife, he added, "I've chosen Sarah."

"Chosen?" I spat the word. "We are fated mates! The Moon Goddess herself bound us!"

"Even the Moon Goddess makes mistakes," he replied, rising from his chair. Then he used it—that commanding Alpha tone that no wolf could resist, that he had promised never to use against me. "Sarah has sacrificed her potential mate bond for me. She deserves these three years of my loyalty."

Three years? What was he saying?

"You think you can just... set me aside for three years and then what? Come back when you're done with her?" My voice cracked as the full horror of his betrayal sank in.

"This discussion is over." He turned away, severing our mind-link with a brutal psychic push that left me gasping.

I collapsed to my knees as Aria howled in anguish, the sound echoing only in my mind now that our connection to Alexander was gone. The mate bond that had been my anchor, my north star, my very reason for being, lay in tatters around me.

And in that moment, as I knelt on the floor of the study where we had once planned our future together, something inside me hardened. The devoted, trusting Luna was dying, and in her place, something new was being born—something with teeth.
