Goodbye, Twilight Chapter 1

I had been in a relationship with Harry Chalamet for ten years.

He stood up for me and even ended up in the hospital after a fight.

He financially supported me in my education by laboring on construction sites.

Even my friends could tell that he was madly in love with me, and I believed it too.

Just when we were about to get married, I noticed he often secretly stared blankly at a photo. But the person in that photo wasn’t me…

Harry Chalamet leaned against the balcony. He was lost in thought as he stared at the photo in his hand.

I could not see his face clearly under the hazy moonlight.

A cold breeze blew in from the balcony, and I coughed lightly.

He froze for a moment. Then, he instinctively closed the balcony door. “You’re awake?”

I suppressed the bitterness I felt and forced myself to ignore the fact that he had hidden the photo as fast as a lightning strike. “I feel a bit thirsty.”

Harry smiled softly and poured me a glass of water. “Aurora, you could’ve just told me. Why come out here on your own?”

I stared at him closely. An unreadable emotion shone in his eyes.

I noticed a hint of relief in his gaze. He was relieved that I had not noticed the photo in his hand.

“I’m going back to bed now.”

Right after I finished saying that, he lifted me in his arms. “I’ll go back to bed with you.”

I felt like I was trapped inside a hot oven in his arms. “Why are your hands and feet so cold? Don’t come out in such thin clothes next time. You’ll catch a cold. Let me take care of things for you.”

Unlike the past, this time, I found his comforting words unusually displeasing to hear.

I had the urge to ask, “Who is she? Do I look like her? Do you love me?”

Countless questions screamed in my mind. Yet, none came out of my mouth. I merely made a sound of acknowledgment.

This was the second time I had caught him secretly looking at the photo.

The first time I caught him was two months ago while I was trying on the wedding dress in the boutique. He waited for me on the couch.

The female assistant helped me adjust the wedding dress. Her eyes were filled with envy. “Not many men come with their fiancees to try on wedding dresses these days. Madam, you’re a very lucky woman indeed.”

I blushed. My heart filled with joy.

The moment I came out of the fitting room, I saw him lost in thought and looking at his wallet.

From that angle, I saw a photo inside.

The woman smiled radiantly in the photo. She wore a long white dress and had two cute dimples.

She looked lively, energetic, young, and high-spirited. Somehow, we looked alike.

But I was very certain that the woman in the photo was not me.

I had served as the private medical counsel for the Huff family for five years, keeping their scandals buried and their blood pumping. But at the Cipriani gala, standing under a storm of camera flashes, I realized I was just a smudge of ink on their golden canvas. My twenty-year-old niece, Ainsley, looked me up and down with a sneer and pointed at my throat. She demanded I hand over the emerald pendant—the only thing my grandmother left me—because it would "pop" better against the gold gown of her father’s new media darling, Harlow. I turned to Grafton, the man whose neurodegenerative condition I had personally managed in secret, waiting for him to act like a human being. He didn't even blink. He just leaned in and hissed, "Give it to her, Katharina. Don't make a scene. Fix this." After I handed over the necklace and walked out, the retaliation was instant. Within ten minutes, my credit cards were declined, my biometric access was revoked, and the concierge I had tipped for a decade blocked me from entering my own home. Grafton told me I’d be destitute and starving within a week. They all thought I was a family charity case, a leech clinging to the Huff name for prestige. They had no idea that I had spent years quietly securing the intellectual property rights to their most profitable drugs under my maiden name. They didn't know that I was "The Broker," an underground medical legend with a bank account that dwarfed their trust funds. I watched from the shadows as Grafton’s health began to crumble without my specialized injections and their stock price went into a tailspin. They thought they could erase me, but you can't delete the person who holds the structural integrity of your life together. When the panicked calls finally started coming, I didn't answer. I wasn't interested in a settlement or an apology anymore. I was busy using my offshore funds to buy up their crashing shares, ready to take back the empire they thought they had kicked me out of.

"You were just the incubator, Alex. Iliana is their real mother." With those words, Alpha Gavyn erased six years of my life. I had raised his twins, sat up with them through fevers, and loved them as my own while he waited for his "true mate" to return. But the moment Iliana came back, I became nothing more than a nuisance. The betrayal didn't stop there. My children, the ones who used to cling to my leg, looked at me with pure disgust. "Ew," my daughter sneered. "Daddy says you're just a hairless weakling. Don't touch me!" She shoved me down the stairs. Gavyn didn't help me up. He stepped over my bleeding body to comfort Iliana because the smell of my blood "bothered" her. He forced me to dive into a poisoned lake to retrieve a necklace Iliana threw away, just to humiliate me. And when kidnappers held us both at gunpoint on a cliff, asking him to save one, he didn't hesitate. "I choose Iliana," he said, turning his back on me. "You were just a substitute." As I fell into the abyss, waiting for death, I felt a snap inside my chest. Gavyn thought he was killing a latent human. He had no idea that the fall would shatter the seal on my soul. Mid-air, my bones didn't break—they reshaped. A blinding white light exploded from my skin. The Alpha didn't just discard a nanny. He just unleashed the legendary White Wolf.
