My Contract Husband Is A Cursed Billionaire Novel Cover

My Contract Husband Is A Cursed Billionaire

As the eldest daughter of the Sharp family, I was treated worse than a stray dog, while my younger sister Seraphina was their precious princess. When the family needed someone to marry a dying billionaire heir, they naturally chose me to take her place. To force my consent, my brothers held a peanut butter sandwich to my face—knowing it was a lethal allergy—while dangling my EpiPen just out of reach. On speakerphone, my own mother sighed in annoyance. "Let her die. It might be for the best." I choked out an agreement just as my throat closed up. But the forced engagement broke my sacred mystical vow, causing me to violently cough up my own lifeblood. Seeing the blood, Seraphina dramatically fainted. My brothers instantly carried her to the hospital, stepping over my dying body and leaving me to bleed out on the cold marble floor. I had to use a forbidden blood rune, draining my last ounce of strength, just to survive the night. Even the mystical Order I served offered no comfort, calling only to demand I secure ten billion dollars for them or forfeit my soul for eternity. Abandoned by my blood family and my spiritual master, I was completely alone, left with nothing but a broken body and a ticking clock. But they made one fatal mistake: they let me live. I turned to the dying heir they forced me to marry, a man plagued by a dark curse only I could cure. "I will be your wife, and I will save your life," I told him. In exchange, I would use his unimaginable wealth and power to make everyone who threw me away pay the ultimate price.

Chapter 5

Aurelio pulled the chair closer to the bed and sat down, his movements deliberate and unhurried. The power he had displayed moments ago was gone, replaced by a quiet intensity.

Chloe spoke first, her voice steady. "Thank you, Mr. Finley. But I think we need to establish what, exactly, the term 'fiancée' means to you."

A flicker of appreciation crossed his pale features. He liked directness. "You're right, Miss Sharp. And first, I want to apologize for my family's presumption."

Chloe raised an eyebrow. This was not what she expected.

"This marriage arrangement," he continued, his tone candid, "was orchestrated by my grandmother. She consulted a mystic who claimed a daughter of the Sharp family would... improve my fate." He gave a small, self-deprecating smile. "Pure superstition, wouldn't you agree?"

Chloe didn't answer. She knew it was far from superstition. There were forces at play here she didn't yet understand.

"I don't believe in such things," Aurelio went on. "My original intention in coming to your home was to offer a generous compensation package and formally dissolve this ridiculous engagement."

The confession stunned her. He had never wanted to marry her, or Seraphina. He had wanted out.

"I have no desire to drag an innocent woman into my... situation," he explained, a shadow passing over his eyes. "You've heard the rumors about my health. They are true."

A complex mix of emotions swirled inside Chloe. Relief, sharp and immediate, that she wouldn't be shackled to a stranger. But it was followed by a cold spike of panic. If he dissolved the engagement, she would lose her only shield. She was penniless, disowned, and weak. Without his protection, her family would find a way to drag her back.

Aurelio seemed to read the conflict on her face. "Of course," he added, his voice shifting, "last night changed everything. You possess a power I can't comprehend. A power that eased a pain I have lived with my entire life."

He leaned forward slightly, his gaze locking onto hers. "So, I've changed my mind. I do need you, Miss Sharp. But not as a wife."

He paused, letting his words sink in.

Chloe's mind raced, assessing her new reality. He didn't want a wife. He wanted a healer. A magical curiosity. That put her in a position of weakness, of dependency. A well-paid employee, perhaps, but still disposable.

She needed more. She needed security. She needed a legal status that her family could not challenge. She needed time and resources to figure out how to fix the broken pact within her.

And he needed to live.

Their needs were perfectly aligned.

"You can think of it as a... consultation," Aurelio said, misinterpreting her silence as fear. "I will provide you with anything you need-money, security, a place to live. In exchange, you will..."

"No."

The word, quiet but firm, cut him off.

Aurelio's brow furrowed. He couldn't imagine why she would refuse.

Chloe met his gaze directly, her chin lifted. "I will not be your private physician, Mr. Finley."

His eyes cooled, a hint of the earlier steel returning. He thought she was overplaying her hand.

She took a breath and laid her cards on the table. "I will be your wife."

The surprise on his face was genuine, the first crack in his composed facade.

"A contract marriage," she clarified, her voice gaining strength. "For one year. I provide you with treatment for your condition. You provide me with the protection and resources of the Finley name. After one year, we divorce amicably. No attachments. A clean transaction."

She saw the gears turning in his mind as he processed her audacious counter-offer. She needed the title of 'Mrs. Finley.' It was an iron shield her family could never hope to penetrate. It was the foundation she needed to survive, and to complete the mission the Order had given her.

Aurelio stared at her, a long, silent moment stretching between them. This broken, discarded girl was not a victim. She was a strategist. And she had just taken control of the negotiation.
